NYCFacets is just the first installment towards our ultimate vision of a network of data-driven pediacities.
What is a “pediacity”, you might ask? It’s a smart wiki-like system that collaborates all kinds of datasources about a city – from a city’s Open Data portal, to statistics from the US Census, reviews from Yelp, gatherings in Meetup.com, etc. etc. etc.
But we won’t abandon NYCFacets. We’re already working on improvements to make it more useful to the Open Data developer community. Actually, we believe that every pediacity requires it own NYCFacets, because as any developer worth their salt will tell you – you start with understanding the data.
We’ll keep iterating on NYCFacets to make it an “Open Data Innovation Acceleration” platform.
But what’s this “crowdknowing” gibberish you keep talking about? Human-powered, machine-accelerated, Collective Knowledge Systems.
Well… we’re working on a “novel” way of keeping us humans in the loop to amplify the smarts of these pediacities. We can’t disclose too much about it now, but we aim to have an early preview for NYC this year.
Watch this space!
